A brief back story...
If an FM radio has woken you up in a busy Australian capital city in the past 20 years, chances are you’ve already heard him. But don’t blame Joe – he hates the alarm clock too.
Joe Bovalino grew up in country Victoria and was involved in the launch of Shepparton’s long awaited community radio station ONE FM. He quickly made a name for himself by becoming an award winning announcer before the age of 18 at 3SR. It wasn’t long before the big city beckoned and Joe made the move to metro radio.
The next decade saw Joe work right across Australia for several radio networks. With music shifts on FOX FM, Triple M and Gold 104.3 in Melbourne, Triple M Brisbane and SAFM in Adelaide. It was in Adelaide where he was first offered the all-important role of breakfast host. Both producing and anchoring the ‘Amanda and James’ show, Joe was an integral part of the team that hurtled the show to No.1 , creating top rating promotions along the way including The Great Race, Nan and Popstars and the award winning ‘Fugitive’.
With steady, calm rapport and impeccable timing, Joe has been credited as being ‘the best breakfast anchor in the country’ and has gone on to host numerous top rating breakfast shows. He has worked alongside some of Australia’s best talent including James Brayshaw, Chrissie Swan, Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, Dave O’Neil, Lehmo and Brigitte Duclos.
Behind the scenes Joe is an experienced producer and has become a valued member of several programming teams, working as an assistant program director, creating ideas for shows, developing content , writing and producing promotions, training announcers and working closely with news rooms. Also an experienced product team member, Joe is able to draw on his 20 year commercial radio experience and contribute to future planning and overall station programming.
Joe has been the voice for countless TV and radio commercials, station imaging and promotions. He has provided the voice for documentaries and character voices for a children’s education series. He has compered numerous ‘Skyshows’ (in front of South Australian audiences topping 400,000) and continues to enjoy hosting events (large and small) including corporate functions, fashion shows, luncheons and product launches.
Joe is the ultimate professional and all round nice guy. You can catch him on Gold 104.3 Melbourne.
With extensive experience in broadcasting and media, Joe now uses these skills in a teaching and mentoring capacity both at a tertiary level at Victoria University, Footscray and in radio training at RTI (Radio Training Institute) Melbourne. Subjects developed and taught include Radio Production, Audio Recording and Cross Media Practices, along with presentation, studio operation, podcasting and on air development.
